My excuses in order of importance:

1. Bad tires, all of them with at least three events on them.
2. Cold weather
3. Didn't warm up my tires before timed runs.
4. Was busy with the DE school and students all weekend.
5. My set up was wrong for this track.
6. The sun was in my eyes
7. It rained on my windshield in the fishbowl.


Thanks to Robert and Jack for another great event and to all of our instructors, drivers and students for participating.

Well, here are my excuses in order of importance:

1. Mark held me up
2. I dropped 110 tire points and two classes (CC05 vs CC07)
3. Mark kept holding me up
4. It was cold
5. Mark was still holding me up
6. I popped on cold tires for timed runs, and did not warm them up
7. It rained from before the bowl until after the waterfall

At least I was ahead of Mark for timed laps.

It was definitely my theme for the weekend. I believe that I got every last bit of grip out of those tires. Anyone who would like what's left (Chuck?), feel free to let me know and I'll be happy to give them to you.

A very fun event and thanks to all who made it happen.

Congratulations to Gentleman Jim Duncan for TTOD and Mr. TOP BRI Paul Young (I think we all saw that coming).

Even running with wipers on and a full 80mph 4 wheel drift in the sweeper entering the bowl I managed to post a personal best time but it was not enough this day. Lil bro had this track nailed and never let go winning CC06 by 2/10ths. Bravo Danny!

Definitely liked doing timed runs earlier, especially with the weather issue. It has me thinking.

Have we ever considered doing timed runs in groups? For example, skip the 10th run session, but let each group go out for a 5-10 warm-up session. Then, immediately after the warm-up session, the group lines up according to best practice time and does the timed runs as a group. Still doing 4-5 cars on the track for timing, as we do now. This way, each group gets a chance to warm up engine and tires before the timed runs session. Also, we could vary the order of the groups from event to event for some added fairness and treatment, i.e. red first at one event, orange first at the next and yellow first at the next one, and so on.

Potentially, overall timing takes longer, and we have more time between cars/drivers that could be in the same class.
One car with two drivers, for example. Currently, they probably run within 5-10 minutes of each other, but the proposal
could make that 30 minutes or longer. The overall timing process from first to last car takes longer too. In theory, the
weather and track changes would make it less fair, but in reality I doubt it would matter that much. Actually this past
weekend it might have been less fair, but it was definitely unusual weather.

You know, I kinda like the idea of warm tires for all, but then again, I kinda like the way we do it now.

I like Don's idea. It seems to me it would be a fairer way than is currently done. As far as the time it would take, I believe it would be considerably less than the current process.
There were 29 time trialers on Sunday. Assume there are 10 in each group (red, orange,yellow) - it doesn't change the following by assuming this. Each group could be given a 6 min. warmup session, approximately 4 laps, and then immediately lined up for timed runs. At an average of 1:29 (this was the approx avg on Sunday) time per lap for each car with a 10 sec spacing between cars, the 5 car set, taking 3 laps each, would take about 7 min assuming 1 minute to clear the track and get ready for the next set. For 10 cars(two sets of five) in the group this would be a total of 20 min (6 + 14) for each group. With 3 groups that's 60 min for the warmup and timed runs for all three groups. Each group would have the advantage of having their cars and tires warm and no group would have to wait for a couple of hours before doing their timed runs as is currently the case. Even if these estimated times are somewhat optimistic it's still considerably less time than the current 10th session of 15 min x 3 groups = 45min, the delay after the last group before the timed runs, and then another hour or or more to line cars up and do the timed runs. In addition to the longer time involved with the current process it is also unfair to those that are the first out in the last practice session and the last to do timed runs.
