PSM failure

I brought my Cayman back to San Diego at the beginning of the quarantine and it's mostly been sitting, except for quick grocery trips. Last weekend I did my first bit of extended driving and after an hour I got a dire warning about PSM having failed and to adjust driving accordingly. Of course my CPO expired while it's been sitting. The next time I started the car, the warning was gone but reappeared after ~10 minutes of driving, so I guess its not just a fluke.

Not having had a Porsche in SD for over 10 years, I was hoping for some shop recommendations. Also, has anyone heard if PCNA has offered any warranty extensions due to cars sitting idle for the last couple of months?

Yes to Porsche extending the warranty. We got an email letter confirming this a few weeks ago. "Given the current disruptions to our normal routines," is the first line of the letter. Our 4 year new-car warranty expired in April, but the letter extended the warranty for 3 months. FYI, the mileage limit didn't change. But with "only" 32,000 miles on the clock, mileage isn't an issue for us. Suggest you check with Porsche USA about the issue. Good luck.

Low voltage can cause havoc with the PSM system and throw intermittent faults.

Got an email today from Porsche re "our cars might not live up to the quality standards we expect" (my words). Bottom line: transfer case warranty for 2014 - 2008 Macans is extended for unlimited mileage and/or 7 years.

Yet another letter from Porsche today. They are extending the warranty on all 2014 to 2018 Macan wheel speed sensors out to 10 years (with no concern for mileage). Issue? "There is a possibility that moisture in the wheel speed sensor can potentially lead to wheel speed sensor failure." FYI, there have been two recalls for our Macan as well, both fuel system related.

It turned out that my CPO was still in effect and it turned out to be a faulty sensor that was covered by the CPO, so yay!

The battery at the time was ok, starting wise. I've had it die twice since then because I didn't run it enough. Need to consider just getting a battery tender, because just driving around the block every couple of days is not cutting it.

A few years ago, this was the exact thing that Porsche rebranded for their charger (at 2x the price). I've had one for 10 years and its on the Pcar now rescuing the battery once again...(pandemic working from home means I don't drive anywhere). Get the pigtail connector that permanently stays on the battery, so you can quickly plug directly into the charger when needed.
