I would like to throw out a few questions to our vast pool of Porsche Fans and Owners.

What type of insurance do you have? Do you like your provider? How is a race car differant than a garage queen?

I just added another P-Car to my locked garage with survalence. I dont drive anywhere, and when I do its to hang out with you guy and gals. I think Leeland West has a value plan.

I have AAA insurance
I was really surprised when my rates actually went down when trading my 09 Passat for my 04 Boxster
Granted my homeowners ins is also with AAA, so i get a big discount on my auto insurance.

Don't have a race car (yet ), so I don't know about how that would impact things

I love AAA and the few times I have had claims they have been more than fair and very easy to deal with.

Jay, I got a quote from AAA and they still ended up being $500+ / month more than Geico for me... You had me sold when we were talking the other day, but, things don't seem to have changed much

I hope you mean $500/year. Our entire insurance for our house + Porsche + BMW with AAA isn't even close to $500 a month...
Of course, if you are insuring a 918 Spyder and an Enzo, I could see an extra $500/month.

Last time I checked, Leland West only insured stock cars. If they are modified or race cars, forget it. I have used Barratt Jackson Insurance for collectibles and race cars and been happy with their rates. They are underwritten by Chartis, which used to be the AIG Private Client Group. I had $25K agreed value insurance for storage, paddock and transportation on my race car for $290/year from them. Of course, when you take it on the track, you're on your own dime. For my '68 911, I had full coverage for street use (comp, collision, liability, uninsured motorist, etc.) in the same amount ($25K agreed value) for about $430/year. I never had a claim, so I can't speak to their performance in that situation, but they had the best prices around at the time, and I got quotes from several (Hagerty, Grundy, American Modern, Leland West).

My Cayman S was not eligible for "collector car" insurance from AIG, so I insured it under my regular Allstate policy and it costs $530 every 6 months for $100K/$300K Liability, UMI, collision ($500 deductible) and comprehensive. By comparison, my 2001 F250 PSD costs $283 every 6 months (including a rider for the $9K camper in the bed), and the 2011 Nissan Leaf is $317, for the same coverage. There is an exclusion for track use, of course, on all Allstate policies, but no storage or use restrictions like on most collector car policies.

It's also worth noting that Lockton Affinity will provide agreed-value coverage for track usage. For DE-style events (which are not timed,as that is considered a competitive event) the rate seems to run around $100/$10,000 value. For timed events I'm unsure of the rate and coverage specifics.

I've had Wawanesa Insurance for years and have always been happy with their service and rates. They are based in San Diego and all of our "extra" cars that are not daily drivers are very reasonable. For example my 993 is $127/year with 250/500 full coverage. Their number is 800-640-2920

I too use Haggerty. The yearly premium for max high limit on all three of my P-cars is ~$600 total. I also have my 40 year old Norton Commando with them, it's about $100/year.

Just this month I moved our '85 Carrera to American Collectors Insurance, a company "connected" to USAA. The attraction was the stated value feature...rather than arguing when/if something happens to the classic. The annual premium is about $100+ compared to USAA, with restrictions being NTE 5000 miles/year, and not used for daily commuting or errands. I hope to NEVER find out about their claims service.
