It's been my (limited) observation, and personal experience as Instuctor at TT's that many of the Red run group drivers are Instructors.
The traditional run order has been Red, Orange ( Occasionally AKA White), and Yellow. This means the Red drivers/instructors and their students have to come in from the Yellow run session and
scramble to get in their cars and out to grid for Red run group. Sometimes Yellow follows Red (although not often seen in my experience) which means Red and their Students have to scramble to get from the Red Session to the Yellow Session on time. Yes, you'll hear Red Run Group called several times. And if you're in the pits, you'll hear the Red Instructors yelling "We're coming, We're coming!" as they strap in to their cars.
No matter how you slice it, with 3 run groups, and the requirement for Instructors to ride with students (and students riding with Instructors) someone's gotta scramble to get directly from one session immediately to the next session. IF the Red drivers aren't instructing, it's a little easier to get to grid on time.
For years I've shorted my sessions by 5 minutes so that I could get my student to grid on time (I don't run in Red .... way too slow

) and insure them full run sessions.
If there were 4 run groups, it would be less of a scramble; and Robert has played with variations; but the 3-group session is what Robert, Jack, and many of the TT drivers seem to prefere for optimum track time.
